Dial-a-Shopper

The company in conjunction with it's sister company Central Shopmobility, operates what was formerly known as the "Easyshopper" service on behalf of the three Councils.

This service was originally formed in 1994 with Central Shopmobility, based on the principle, that a significant number of people who use the Dial-a-Journey service, do so for shopping trips. It is acknowledged that the principle of multi-occupancy of vehicles for co-ordinated shopping trips is the most cost-effective method of providing accessible transport. It was this in mind that the Easyshopper scheme was born, where passengers were encouraged to join the scheme and use this vehicle rather than a
Dial-a-Journey vehicle. The incentive for the passenger was that the fares were greatly reduced.

The original scheme worked along the lines that Central Shopmobility (who at that time had a fixed base in Falkirk) offered shoppers with disabilities the free loan of a wheelchair wheelchair when they visited the shopping centre of their choice. This is a scheme that works extremely well nationally.

Shopmobility recognised that in addition to the fixed base, there was a need to offer the same service to shoppers outwith Falkirk. It was with this in mind that a "mobile" was commissioned. This offered Shopmobility the opportunity to offer the same facility to different areas such as Grangemouth, Stirling and Alloa.

Dial-a-Journey's role was to tow the mobile to the different venues, drop it off, then uplift passengers who wanted come to the mobile. This worked well for almost three years when, in 1997, Shopmobility opened a purpose built base within the new Stirling Bus Station. In addition Shopmobility acquired a more appropriate vehicle to tow the mobile, which offered new possibilities to maximise the use of the bus.

The role of Easyshopper was reviewed late in 1997, and a serious of opportunities arose which resulted in the forming of "Dial-a-Shopper" to co-incide with the launch of the other "Dial-A " services.
